This webinar will review the basic components of the canine respiratory defense system and discuss the mechanisms by which classical and emerging respiratory pathogens, like Bordetella bronchiseptica, evade these defenses and cause disease. This review will form the basis for understanding rational strategies for diagnosis, therapy, and disease prevention, including the important role of vaccination. Dr. Stephan Anthony Carey will summarize the mechanistic rationale underlying the various vaccine options (injectable, intranasal, and oral) for Bordetella bronchiseptica and review the advantages conferred by each of these vaccine routes to build the argument for leveraging these advantages in a single “prime-boost” protocol.
