A variety of clinical problems are exacerbated by stress in cats. Notable examples include recurrent respiratory or ocular disease from FHV-1, diarrhea, and feline interstitial cystitis. These conditions can be difficult to manage and can even result in relinquishment of the cat. In this lecture, Dr. Michael Lappin will provide an update on the recent studies using stress relief to aid in the management of common clinical problems associated with feline stress. Emphasis will be placed on a new study documenting use of a probiotic that has lessened stress in cats infected with FHV-1, resulting in decreased clinical signs of reactivated infection as compared with the placebo group.
