It is easier to answer client questions when veterinary teams themselves know what they should be asking hemp-derivative manufacturers. This lecture will discuss this growing industry and how hemp products are currently being regulated, labeled, and marketed. The need to discuss judicious product selection with clients and ask specific quality-control questions of manufacturers will be highlighted, along with an overview of available products. A review of the scientific literature will outline the current no-observed-adverse-effect level for cannabidiol (CBD), potential adverse effects of CBD use, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) toxicity and tolerance in dogs.
