This lecture will highlight the recent interest in hemp and hemp-related nutraceuticals, with a focus on the bioactives in hemp, particularly the most prominent cannabinoids, including cannabidiol, cannabidiolic acid, cannabigerol, and other derivatives. An examination of the most prevalent medical indications, including anxiety, osteoarthritis, inflammatory conditions, and neuroprotection, and their translational potential to companion animals will be covered. Further examination of use of human products in cancer management and recent work on canine cancer cell biology and clinical cancer management will also be highlighted.
