Previous studies have reported a surgical site infection (SSI) rate of <5% following use of the lateral fabellar nylon suture technique for canine cranial cruciate ligament repair. This recent study evaluated 150 lateral suture surgeries in 130 dogs to determine the SSI rate and assess variables contributing to infection including patient weight and anesthetic protocol.

Turns out, (patient) size does matter, as does anesthetic induction agent. Use these findings to help prevent SSI in your practice.
